Elegance, Character & Durability

Handcrafting with full-grain leather

Design & Function

In DaVarg, no detail is too small to be overlooked and every feature is designed and crafted to function together seamlessly. The natural full grain leather has corners and curves precise cut. The hand made red-line stitches are set at an exact distance from leather edges. The Spartan helmet logo faces left and the solid brass hardware has the antique look to mature gracefully alongside leather.

Full-grain Leather

Vegetable-tanned, full-grain leather has a touch, feel and scent that gets better with everyday wear.DaVarg chose such full-grain leather from select tanneries, and transforms them with specific shades and the proprietary back coating. This leather is uncommon and expensive. Give them some care and attention, they are going to develop character and mature gracefully.

Veg Tanning

Over the human history, vegetable tanning process has been transforming raw hides into durable, elegant leather.Today vegetable tanning has become a specialized art, undertaken only by a few select tanneries. Of all tanning methods, it is the most traditional and recognizable - and the only process DaVarg uses due to the unique characteristics of veg-tan leather. DaVarg has commissioned few of the tanneries who still specialize in vegetable tanning to provide the leather to our exacting standards.

Saddle Stitching

Looking at the perfect red-line stitches, it would be believe they are made by hand.Every stitch on DaVarg leather is hand made, using two needles and a single thread. The thread ends are pulled and hand set with equal tension. These criss-crossing threads create an unbreakable bond , that rival the strength and durability of stitches made by a sewing machine.

Back Coating

The back side of Davarg leather is also coated with a specially formulated layer that bonds the corium fibers together. In most leathers, the corium of leather is often left unfinished, causing it to attract moisture, get stained, or have its fibers quickly come loose. At DaVarg we find this undesirable, and developed proprietary coating to give the corium a neat finish.

Edge Finishing

Leather edge finishing is more than just edge coating.A well prepared edge seals the cut edges of leather and binds the corium fibers from come loose with everyday use. Our multistep edge finishing process ensures that the leather edge will continue to look well finished even after years of everyday use.

With exacting designs and crafting, DaVarg minimizes the need for hardware. But when necessary, they are chosen with great consideration. The corrosion resistant naval grade brass chosen for rivets, loops and buckles develops an aged patina, especially as it ages along with leather. The DaVarg logo on select hardware is a testament to the attention to detail and our commitment to create articles that lasts forever.

The Spartan Helmet

DaVarg Emblem

The Spartan Helmet symbolizes the spirit of DaVarg and is branded deep into leather grains in every article.

Created specifically for Castello DaVarg, the emblem depicts the Spartan warrior in the helmet - and embodies the character and personality and the attention to detail afforded to every DaVarg article.

The top epidermal layer of hide preserved through the tanning process.

The grain layer in full-grain leather retains the character of the natural hide.

Look closely, and we can see full grain resembles our on skin. Since vegetable tanning preserves this layer, even with every day wear and use, the grain matures and develops further character.

The soft luster on a grain surface of leather, that gets enhanced with wear and usage.

The natural sheen of un-buffed grain develops further with the right conditioning and usage.

Together with the grain and pull-up, the sheen differentiates DaVarg leather into elegant maturing material that develops character with care and wear.

The variation of leather shade on the grain surface as leather is flexed or stretched.

Pull effect in full grain leather often noticed as natural unevenness in the leather shades.

This multi-tone patina gets pronounced as the grain is stretched as leather is bent or pulled. This variations and patina is what gives leather its natural character.

Makers Mark

The DaVarg Markers Mark is unique. Set in a circular motif with Spartan helmet emblem, it reminds the mantra behind every article - Castello DaVarg. Full-grain Leather. Crafted in USA.

Embossing the DaVarg emblem on the full grain leather is an intricate manual process. The leather is aligned carefully to with the logo facing left. And with controlled pressure and temperature, the brass die is pressed deep into the grain.

Serial Number

Hidden inside the DaVarg article is a unique identifier that marks of the article's origin and pedigree; enabling us to trace the date of crafting, the leather batches and the artisans who crafted it.

DaVarg developed an 'Old Standard' typeface with two custom 'chevrons' to create a classic style monogram that blends with the design and character of full-grain leather. The monogram is deep embossed into the grain to create a permanent personal statement.

DaVarg Guarantee

Commitment. It is a state of mind.

At Castello DaVarg, we create articles to last forever and want you to cherish them as they mature gracefully in your care and wear.

Should we ever fall short of your expectations, just let us know and we will make it right. That is our promise and commitment embossed deep in every DaVarg Article.

Enhancing and Preserving Leather

DaVarg Leather Shades

DaVarg leather comes in five distinct shades. The shades are chosen to retain the natural character of grain, yet enhance the pull-up and sheen. The shades are imparted with penetrating dyes that go deep into the leather's grain and corium interface. Unlike other synthetic coatings on artificial leather, these dyes do not cover the individual leather grains, rather they give them a deep multi-tone patina that enhances the elegance and character.

It always has been a project rooted in my passion for design. It’s not about reinventing the wheel, but about creating for its own sake, and making better versions of the products I want to own and use. This mindset of creation and attention to detail has allowed us to find success in unconventional ways, and to pioneer our own path as we’ve grown into a full brand.
